An experienced editor for an English-language magazine is required urgently. Candidates will be expected to have demonstrated ability in both writing and editing, a good eye for a good story, and the ability to work under deadline pressure. Interview experience, feature development experience and the ability to be flexible with working hours are also an advantage. Mac skills (InDesign) are also a strong advantage. This is a position on a homes, interiors and design magazine, and candidates will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and experience in this area, as well as be smart, presentable and able to talk confidently about the subject matter.
Running magazine(s) under portfolio as assigned by the editor-in-chief, CEO or other upper management including planning, writing, editing, assigning work, meeting deadlines, ensuring work is error-free, ensuring proper procedures are followed as regards ISO, implementing company policy for all staff under the ME, liaising with design and production to ensure smooth workflow
Working with commercial and digital teams to produce work that is required or to meet clients and other parties directly involved with the title(s)
Signing off all pages
Responsible for meeting editorial / production deadline
Assisting with the production of a dummy issue for each magazine
Responsible for personnel matters of the team; that is, all staff who report to the managing editor should report to him or her as regards work quality, work timeliness, quality of work, sick or lateness
Attending weekly editorial planning meetings (mandatory)
Education: Any relevant subject but at least to degree level. Degree on Architectural, Interior Design, will be an advantage
Experience at least 3 years in the same position
Technical ability: MS Office all programs: superior level; Internet and email: superior level; Adobe InDesign or similar (Mac): some knowledge is preferable
Personal qualities: Highly organized; pragmatic and deadline-oriented; confident and outgoing; well-spoken and presentable; even-tempered and able to handle stressful situations
Having sense of marketing & selling
